Newer cars and SUVs almost all come with a wireless charging pad, yet plenty of drivers still end up buying a phone mount. That's because the factory pad often charges slowly, heats up your phone, and doesn't hold it where you can see it. So what's the best setup? Here's an honest look at every option, what each does well, and where it falls short.
1. The factory wireless charging pad
Pros: already built in, no extra cost, and it sits in a spot designed for your phone.
Cons: most factory pads use older Qi charging, which only works well when your phone is lined up just right. On a moving road it rarely is, so charging slows and phones get hot, especially while running navigation and music. The phone usually lies flat or hidden in a cubby, out of view.

2. Air vent clip mounts
Pros: inexpensive, easy to move between cars, keeps the phone near eye level.
Cons: can sag or rattle, block airflow from the vent, and bake your phone when the heat is on. Charging versions leave a cable dangling across the dash, and some vent designs won't hold a clip securely.
